Jessica has studied no-needle pediatric acupuncture (shonishin) all over the world: Amsterdam, Oakland, Tokyo, Maui, Portland, Takasaki (it's a rough life but she does it for the children). Pediatric acupuncture can be utilized for all the reasons that adults seek acupuncture. Stress reduction, digestive issues, lung health, pain, as well as typically more pediatric conditions like bed wetting and teething. Typically in adolescence, children are ready for some extremely small and gentle needles. Sports recovery, hormonal skin imbalances, dysmenorrhea, insomnia, growing pains, ADHD, and academic stress is what we typically see in this age group.
As with adults, consent is always attained we work as a team to resolve imbalances using diet, lifestyle, acupuncture, and herbs. The strongest complaint that I hear from children is that they want to come in more often. The second most common complaint is of course that their herbs don't taste like candy...which is honestly a solvable problem.
